ON OCTOBER 1, the Davao-made film The Thank You Girls will be screened in Canada as part of a competition for works of first-time directors in Asia.
But due to lack of funds, the Davaoeño actors of the indie-film could not attend the 27th annual Vancouver International Film Festival where Thank You Girls competes against seven other movies from Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea in the Dragons & Tigers competition.
Only Davaoeño director Charliebebs Gohetia, American producer James Hohl and Manila actor Gie Salonga are going to Canada.
Gohetia will be shouldered by the event organizers, while Hohl and Salonga will be spending their own money.
Actor Pidot Villocino, one of the lead actors from Davao, said the homegrown players could not afford to shoulder the fare and accommodation.
