After my dad moved back home to the Cape Verde Islands 7 years ago, I have felt an even deeper connection to the country off the West Coast of Africa. The strength and beauty of the people is astounding, and I have always known I would be able to offer more of myself to them. My dad and I have decided that with my involvement in new media and his experience in carpentry we would build the village's first new media center where students from the local University can come to utilize the facility while training the youth from the area. As our dream progresses, I hope to spend more of my time volunteering in Cape Verde, being with these amazing children, and sharing some of my passions with them. This first $800 will go towards the building supplies and land preparations needed for the first phase of development.
